John A. Canning, Jr., Chairman
A.B., Denison University; J.D., Duke University. Prior to co-founding MDP, Mr. Canning spent 24 years with First Chicago Corporation, most recently as Executive Vice President of The First National Bank of Chicago and President of First Chicago Venture Capital. Mr. Canning has more than 25 years of experience in private equity investing and currently serves on the Boards of Directors of The Economic Club of Chicago, Milwaukee Brewers Baseball Club, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, TransUnion Corp., and Children’s Inner City Educational Fund; on the Boards of Trustees of the Big Shoulders Fund, The Field Museum, Museum of Science and Industry, and Northwestern University. Mr. Canning is also a Commissioner of the Irish Pension Reserve Fund, a Trustee and Chairman of The Chicago Community Trust, and a Director and Chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago.
Paul J. Finnegan, Co-CEO
- A.B., Harvard College; M.B.A., Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration. Prior to co-founding MDP, Mr. Finnegan was with First Chicago Venture Capital for ten years. Previously, he held a variety of marketing positions in the publishing industry, both in the United States and in Southeast Asia. Mr. Finnegan has more than 24 years of experience in private equity investing with a particular focus on investments in the communications industry. He currently serves on the Boards of Directors of iplan, LLC and Rural Cellular Corporation. Mr. Finnegan is President of the Harvard Alumni Association and the Chairman of the Board of Teach for America in Chicago. He is also a member of the Board of Dean's Advisors at the Harvard Business School and the Leadership Council of the Harvard School of Public Health.

Samuel M. Mencoff, Co-CEO
- A.B., Brown University; M.B.A., Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration. Prior to co-founding MDP, Mr. Mencoff was with First Chicago Venture Capital for 11 years. Mr. Mencoff has more than 24 years of experience in private equity investing with a particular focus on investments in the basic industries sector. He currently serves on the Boards of Directors of Forest Products Holdings, L.L.C. (d.b.a. Boise Cascade), Packaging Corporation of America, Smurfit Kappa Group Limited, and Evanston Northwestern Healthcare; and the Board of Trustees of Brown University.
Nicholas W. Alexos, Managing Director
- C.P.A., B.B.A., Loyola University; M.B.A., University of Chicago. Prior to co-founding MDP, Mr. Alexos was with First Chicago Venture Capital for four years. Previously, he was with The First National Bank of Chicago. Mr. Alexos works on transactions across all of the firm’s industry sectors and currently serves on the Boards of Directors of Pierre Holding Corp., Boys and Girls Clubs of Chicago, and Children’s Inner City Educational Fund and on the Advisory Board of Sirona Dental Systems GmbH.

Benjamin D. Chereskin, Managing Director
- A.B., Harvard College; M.B.A., Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration. Prior to co-founding MDP, Mr. Chereskin was with First Chicago Venture Capital for nine years. His prior experience includes a variety of positions at White Properties Corporation. Mr. Chereskin concentrates on investments in the consumer sector and currently serves on the Boards of Directors of BF Bolthouse Holdco LLC, CDW Corporation, Cinemark, Inc., Family Christian Stores, Inc., NWL Holdings, Inc., Tuesday Morning Corporation, and the University of Chicago Laboratory School.
Michael P. Cole, Managing Director
- A.B., Harvard College. Prior to joining MDP, Mr. Cole was with Bear, Stearns & Co. Inc. in the investment banking division. Mr. Cole concentrates on investments in the communications industry and currently serves on the Boards of Directors of MetroPCS Communications, Inc., Sorenson Communications Inc., The Topps Company, Inc., Univision Communications Inc., Chicago Entrepreneurial Center within the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce, and The Lyric Opera of Chicago.

Patrick C. Eilers, Managing Director

Prior to joining MDP, Mr. Eilers was with Jordan Industries, Inc. and IAI Venture Capital, Inc. and played professional football with the Chicago Bears, Washington Redskins, and Minnesota Vikings. Mr. Eilers concentrates on investments in the energy and power sector and currently serves on the Board of Directors of Magellan GP, LLC, Magellan Midstream Holdings GP, LLC, UPC Wind Management, LLC, and US Power Generating Company. Mr. Eilers is also a member of the University of Notre Dame College of Engineering Advisory Council; and serves on the Board of Trustees of Hales Franciscan High School and Cristo Rey Jesuit High School.
Thomas M. Goldstein, Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer
- B.A. Union College, M.B.A. The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, Prior to joining MDP, Mr. Goldstein held a variety of positions for ABN AMRO bank over nine years including CEO of their National Mortgage Franchise and CFO for their North American Operations. Prior to that, Mr. Goldstein held various positions in Finance over 10 years with Morgan Stanley where most of his experience was with Dean Witter Discover & Co, a predecessor company. Mr. Goldstein has also worked for Manufacturers Hanover Trust and Pfizer. Mr. Goldstein serves on the Boards of the YMCA, Chicago Civic Orchestra, and Audit Committee of the Jewish United Fund.

Douglas C. Grissom, Managing Director

Prior to joining MDP, Mr. Grissom was with Bain Capital, Inc. in private equity, McKinsey & Company, Inc., and Goldman, Sachs & Co. Timothy M. Hurd, Managing Director

Christopher J. McGowan, Managing Director

David F. Mosher, Managing Director
- B.S., M.B.A., Babson College. Prior to co-founding MDP, Mr. Mosher was with First Chicago Venture Capital for nine years focusing on investments in the consumer sector. Previously, he held a variety of finance and marketing positions with Teradyne, Inc. and Texas Instruments, Inc. Mr. Mosher is responsible for MDP’s financial, systems, and administrative functions, including acting as the liaison to the limited partners of each of MDP’s private equity funds. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of iplan, LLC.

Brian L. Newman, Managing Director

Prior to joining MDP, Mr. Newman was with Merrill Lynch Global Principal Investments, Walton Street Capital and Kirkland & Ellis. Timothy P. Sullivan, Managing Director

Prior to co-founding Madison Dearborn Partners, Mr. Sullivan was with First Chicago Venture Capital for three years after having served in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Sullivan concentrates on investments in the healthcare sector and currently also serves on the Boards of Directors of Sirona Dental Systems, Inc. and VWR International, Inc. In addition, he is on the Board of Trustees of the Archdiocese of Chicago Investment Committee, Cristo Rey Jesuit High School, Northlight Theatre, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Northwestern University and Stanford Business School Trust.

Mark B. Tresnowski, Managing Director and General Counsel
- C.P.A., B.A., University of Illinois; J.D., University of Virginia School of Law. Prior to joining MDP, Mr. Tresnowski was a partner at Kirkland & Ellis LLP, a firm he had been with from 1986 through 1999 and rejoined in August 2004 after having served as Executive Vice President and General Counsel of Allegiance Telecom Inc., a nationwide competitive local exchange carrier and portfolio company of MDCPII, from 1999 through 2004.
